This position has the potential to be either Part Time or Full Time

Position Summary
Instructional faculty has the important responsibility of creating an innovative learning environment both inside and outside the classroom to inspire success and excellence in student learning. Instructional faculty members are also expected to adhere to professional standards and ethics.

Examples of Duties


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop Event planning courses and programs.
  2. Teach various Event Planning and related courses including business communications, marketing, and hospitality courses.
  3. Provide an outcomes-based and interdisciplinary focused curriculum.
  4. Instructional competency including knowledge of event planning as well as an ability to evaluate student progress.
  5. Conduct events with students as learning opportunities.
  6. Be student focused.
  7. Works with CWC's Admissions Department to recruit students into CWC's business/ hospitality and event planning programs in particular and all programs.
  8. Participate in community outreach efforts as needed or desired.
  9. Use innovative pedagogies and emerging technology to enhance learning.
  10. Promote a collaborative learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom.
  11. Keep current on degree requirements in order to advise students majoring in business, hospitality and event planning and other areas as necessary.
  12. Assist in program budget development and compliance.
  13. Actively participate in annual and five year academic program review(s) including assessment of student learning at the course, program and institution levels.
  14. Develop and revise curriculum offerings for Event Planning.
  15. Work with CWC BOCHES and high school business instructors to offer concurrent and/ or dual credit courses within the CWC service area if needed.
  16. Participates in college committees as required and attends department and division meetings.
  17. Share student information with other faculty and counselors when deemed appropriate, including progress reports, attendance records, etc.
  18. Post and maintain office hours.
  19. Performs other reasonable or related duties as directed.

Typical Qualifications


Position Specifications Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, business, business administration, event planning or other directly related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Specific coursework in the fields of business and/or hospitality/event planning.
Experience
  • Two years' experience in teaching in a classroom or on-line at a community college level or university.
  • Three or more years experience in Event Planning and/or Event Planning instruction.
Licenses/Certifications
  • None required.
Equivalency Statement
  • Equivalent education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Desired Qualifications
  • Private sector business/event planning experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  1. Knowledge of discipline taught.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and assessment.
  3. Knowledge of various instructional pedagogies and technologies that enhance attainment of student learning outcomes.

  5. Knowledge of CWC policies, procedures and practices.
  6. Excellent knowledge and demonstrable ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft applications.
  7. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to relate to a broad range of students.
  9. Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both with the college and the community.
  10. Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to effectively identify and resolve problems.
  12. Ability to teach using technology in the classroom.
  13. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and supervisors. 14. Ability to relate with a diverse population in a professional, helpful manner and be a team player.

  19. Ability to apply communications skills in the areas of composing, editing, listening, presentations.
  20. Ability to apply management skills in areas of procuring equipment, planning student projects, setting standards.
  21. Ability to apply public relations, research and technical skills in an instructional setting such as thinking on your feet, contacting people, long term projects, interviewing, originating new ideas, writing.
  22. Nature of relationships requires interaction exchange of information in the same department and outside of department.
  23. Required to participate on campus in semiannual CWC in-service.
Level of Supervision
  • Plans own time to meet predetermined schedules; work is subject to general supervision and review. Follows general instructions and directions and makes recommendations for own work and department area. Has some freedom of choice in approach to problems, methods of operations and the setting of goals and objectives.

  • Performance of work requires operating a PC Computer, laptop, and other related instructional technology.
Physical Requirements
