What You'll Do: Traeger has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. CAD Designer to join our New Product Development Mechanical Engineering Team in the Salt Lake City, UT office. In this role you will work with mechanical engineers, project managers, product managers, and other teams to ensure products are designed to meet company quality requirements.
Our Sr. CAD Designer will be responsible for developing and maintaining complex 3D CAD models, assemblies, and the associated 2D drawings. This work will generally be on new product development projects. Other responsibilities include working closely with the rest of the engineering team and design in certain creative activities. These activities may include brainstorms, experimentation, prototype fabrication, and testing. This role requires a high level of organization, creativity, attention to detail, and CAD/drafting knowledge to successfully launch innovative features and products consistently.
You will be involved in collaborative activities as well as effectively communicating project progress and information with the wider team. An ideal candidate will be self-motivated and excited to learn and grow in this role.
How You Will Help Us Win: - Assist with the team's execution of the integrated "Go to Market" plan, as a member of the product team
- Create robust 3D CAD model parts and assemblies that communicate design intent, function, and manufacturability
- Create and manage 2D engineering drawings that meet industry and Traeger standards
- Review 2D drawings and 3D models supplied by vendors for consistency in modeling and drawing standard
- Perform tolerance stack analysis
- Pre and post process of FEA and CFD under supervision of the Product Design engineers
- Perform development testing for early validation and verification of focused designs and full product concepts
- Provide design input for DFM and DFA during product development to ensure adherence to functional, aesthetic, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with fabrication suppliers to oversee production of prototypes
- Lead and participate in brainstorms and other ideation activities
- Work with the internal, domestic, and international team, as well as 3rd party partners to ensure effective cross-functional collaboration and solutions
- Work with, maintain, and administer design documentation within the PDM vault
What You'll Need to Succeed: - Associates/ bachelor's degree in CAD design/Engineering Technology or similar
- 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related area, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
- Strong CAD skills with emphasis on efficiency and speed of execution. This should include a variety of skills including sheet metal modeling and surfacing
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM preferred
- Ability to take initiative when given direction. Highly self-motivated and ability to operate independently a plus
- Knowledgeable in drawing standards and completing tolerance stack analysis. Ability to integrate these standards and analysis results into drawings
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required
- Strong communications skills to utilize with cross functional teams, including international team members or contract manufacturers. Should be supplemented with sketching and mockups to enhance communication
- Hands-on creative problem solver with attention to detail
- Good understanding of a wide range of manufacturing processes: sheet metal, machining, injection molding, casting, and welding
