Lookout Valley Veterinary Clinic is dedicated to providing compassionate and high-quality veterinary care to pets in the Chattanooga area. We are a well-established clinic known for our personalized approach and commitment to animal health and wellness. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. This unique opportunity offers the potential to work approximately 30-32 hours per week, with the possibility of additional shift coverage and the potential to move to Full Time status as we grow our practice.

As a Part-Time Veterinary Assistant at Lookout Valley Veterinary Clinic , you will support veterinarians and technicians in delivering exceptional care to our patients. This role requires previous experience in the veterinary industry and a passion for animal care. You will assist with a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic and contributing to a positive experience for both pets and their owners. 
Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with medical procedures, including examinations, diagnostics, and treatments. 
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and ready for patient use. 
  • Assist with the collection of samples for laboratory tests, including blood, urine, and fecal samples. 
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians, including injections, oral medications, and topical treatments. 

Patient Care

  • Provide compassionate care and support to patients, including handling, restraining, and monitoring them during procedures and treatments. 
  • Assist with patient recovery and comfort, including post-operative care and follow-up monitoring. 
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting all treatments, observations, and interactions. 

Client Interaction

  • Greet and check-in clients, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience. 
  • Provide clients with information on their pets’ care, including instructions for medication administration and follow-up care. 
  • Address client questions and concerns with empathy and professionalism, and relay relevant information to the veterinary team. 

Administrative Duties

  • Assist with scheduling appointments and managing patient flow, ensuring efficient clinic operations. 
  • Handle client check-outs and process payments, including managing transactions and handling financial records. 
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring that stock levels are adequate and items are ordered as needed. 

Operational Support

  • Ensure that clinic facilities and equipment are cleaned and sanitized according to infection control protocols. 
  • Assist with general clinic maintenance tasks, including organizing and stocking supplies.
  • Support the team with any additional tasks as needed, including coverage for additional shifts during peak times.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful

Experience

  • Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related veterinary role is strongly desired. 
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and protocols. 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members. 
  • Proficient in handling and restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. 
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. 

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. An Associate’s Degree or certification in Veterinary Technology is a plus but not required. 
  • Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (e.g., CVA) is a plus but not required

Schedule : Part-time position with an average of approximately 30-32 hours per week. Flexibility to pick up extra shifts - only when needed, to work up to 36-37 hours per week as we continue to grow. Ideally seeking a Part-Time candidate, with hopes to grow into Full Time employment as we continue to grow.
